About us

Channel m began broadcasting on 14th February 2000. It is a dedicated service broadcasting throughout Greater Manchester.

From November 2003 the channel was awarded a restricted service licence (RSL), to broadcast free-to-air on existing television aerials on channel 39 and subsequently has moved on to Virgin media digital cable network on channel 878 and Sky 203.

A wholly owned subsidiary of the Guardian Media Group, Channel m produces hours of  programming every day devoted to Greater Manchester news, sport, entertainments, lifestyle and music.

Recently, the station has enjoyed rapid growth and expansion, with a move to purpose built studios within Urbis in Manchester City Centre, production of live news broadcasts five days a week at 5pm and 9pm, the launch of a live three hour breakfast show and the development of the programme schedule to incorporate Channel M productions focused on entertainment and sport for Greater Manchester.
